Flying Dutch Take Down Titans

Morgan Counts (So. • Oshkosh) and Llora Waldman (Fr. • Wausau) won their singles contests as UW-Oshkosh dropped a 6-3 women's tennis decision to Hope College (Mich.) on Tuesday (March 20) in Orlando, Fla.

The closest match of the day was Waldman's bout with Kelsey Jeletz at No. 5 singles. Waldman took the first set, 6-4, before Jeletz posted a 7-6 victory in the second. Waldman then captured the tiebreaker by a 10-7 score.

Counts also worked overtime and her effort resulted in a 4-6, 7-6 (10-5) win over Leah LaBarge at No. 2 singles.

UW-Oshkosh's remaining victory came at No. 1 doubles, where Emily Bostwick (Sr. • Whitefish Bay) and Lauren Piotrowski (So. • Greendale) tallied an 8-6 win over Shelby Schultz and Mallory Smith.

Hope College (3-3) picked up two of its team points in doubles action. Andrea Pickelman and Hannah Schultz marked an 8-5 win over Counts and Preslee Nolte (Fr. • Warren, N.J.) in the second flight, while Casey Baxter and Stephanie Huffman tallied an 8-4 triumph over Karlie Laveau (Fr. • Waukesha) and Erica Van Riper (Fr. • Waukesha) in the third.

In singles play, Hope College received wins from Carly Capestany in the first flight, Melissa Bieri in the third, Pickelman in the fourth and Huffman in the sixth. Capestany defeated Bostwick, 6-4, 6-2, while Bieri ousted Laveau, 6-3, 6-4 and Pickelman beat Van Riper, 6-3, 6-0. Huffman won her bout courtesy of an injury default.

UW-Oshkosh (7-7) challenges Robert Morris University (Ill.) on Wednesday (March 21) in Orlando.
