Titans Split Matches With Eagles, Warriors

UW-Oshkosh remained undefeated in league play as it topped UW-La Crosse and fell to the Winona State University (Minn.) women's tennis team on Saturday (Oct. 1) in La Crosse.

The Titans (6-2/3-0 WIAC) prevailed over the Eagles, 6-3, to begin the day. Winona State (1-0) then captured 5-of-6 singles contests to defeat UW-Oshkosh, 6-3.

Emily Bostwick (Sr. • Whitefish Bay), Lauren Piotrowski (So. • Greendale) and Brianna Theobald (So. • Manitowoc) each contributed a pair of wins against UW-La Crosse (5-1/1-1 WIAC). Bostwick knocked off Jenny Maruyama, 6-2, 6-0 at No. 1 singles and teamed with Piotrowski to top Maruyama and Olivia Hartwick, 8-5, in the first doubles flight. Piotrowski tacked on a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Andrea Vivian at No. 5 singles.

In the fourth flight, Theobald hung on for a 7-5, 5-7 (10-6) win over Abby Tresedder. Morgan Counts (So. • Oshkosh) joined Theobald at No. 3 doubles to post an 8-4 triumph over Megan Fallon and Mara Weiner.

The Titans' final point came from Preslee Nolte's (Fr. • Warren, N.J.) 6-3, 6-2 decision over Weiner at No. 2. UW-La Crosse closed out singles play with wins from #3 Hartwick by a 6-2, 7-6 margin over Counts and #6 Karie Williams by a 4-6, 6-1 (10-6) final over Valerie Langkau (So. • Oshkosh).

In the second doubles flight, Vivian and Tresedder notched an 8-2 victory over Nolte and Megan Etten (So. • Howard).

UW-Oshkosh managed to take the doubles portion of its match with the Warriors. Bostwick and Piotrowski again succeeded in the first flight by topping Leah Dahl and Leah Koehler, 8-4. Counts and Langkau then booked an 8-2 triumph over Kelsey Rice and Laura Roesslein.

Three singles matches went to a tiebreaker, including Dahl's 4-6, 6-4 (10-8) nail-biter over Emily Bostwick. Addison Adler defeated Hanna Bostwick (Fr. • Whitefish Bay) at #6 by a similar 1-6, 6-1 (10-8) tally. UW-Oshkosh received its lone singles victory from Karlie Laveau (Fr. • Waukesha), who totaled a 6-1, 1-6 (10-5) win over Andrea Krueger.

Jessica Urban and Laura Lindstrand combined for an 8-1 decision vs. Etten and Nolte in the second doubles flight. They also came out on top in singles, with #2 Urban defeating Counts, 7-5, 7-6, and #3 Lindstrand besting Langkau, 6-0, 6-1. Koehler finished individual play with a 6-4, 6-0 victory against Etten.

The Titans venture to UW-Whitewater on Wednesday (Oct. 5).
