Titans Cage Falcons For Third Straight Win

UW-Oshkosh extended its winning streak to three matches with an 8-1 victory over the UW-River Falls women's tennis team on Friday (Sept. 30) in River Falls.

UW-Oshkosh (5-1/2-0 WIAC) earned its eight team points on three wins in doubles play and five in singles action. UW-River Falls (2-5/1-3 WIAC) tallied its lone team point on Amanda Drangeid's 6-4, 4-6 (10-8) triumph over Preslee Nolte (Fr. • Warren, N.J.) at No. 2 singles.

Emily Bostwick (Sr. • Whitefish Bay) was victorious at both No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles for UW-Oshkosh. She teamed with Lauren Piotrowski (So. • Greendale) to post an 8-5 win over Drangeid and Jenny Paxton before battling to edge Paxton by a 2-6, 6-2 (11-9) result in singles action. Piotrowski also won a 6-2, 6-3 decision over Maggie Kregness at No. 5 singles.

Other double winners for the Titans were Morgan Counts (So. • Oshkosh) and Brianna Theobald (So. • Manitowoc). The UW-Oshkosh tandem recorded an 8-4 win over Hannah Klimek and Makayla Newberry at No. 3 doubles before breaking off into singles play. Counts then marked a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Jodi VanDeReit at No. 3 singles and Theobald a 6-1, 6-2 win over Kasey Noll at No. 4 singles.

UW-Oshkosh won at No. 2 doubles as Nolte and Megan Etten (So. • Howard) registered an 8-1 triumph over VanDeRiet and Brittany Mohn.

The Titans' remaining victory came on Valerie Langkau's (So. • Oshkosh) 6-3, 6-0 win over Klimek at No. 6 singles.

UW-Oshkosh travels to La Crosse on Saturday (Oct. 1) for contests against UW-La Crosse and Winona State University (Minn.).
