Titans Silence Pointers

UW-Oshkosh got back on the winning track in a big way as it posted a 9-0 victory over the UW-Stevens Point women's tennis team on Thursday (Oct. 13) at the Oshkosh YMCA Tennis Center.

UW-Oshkosh (7-4/4-2 WIAC), which had lost its previous three dual meets, overwhelmed UW-Stevens Point (2-9/1-5 WIAC) early by capturing all three doubles contests with little difficulty.

The Titans recorded a pair of 8-3 victories in doubles action as Emily Bostwick (Sr. • Whitefish Bay) and Lauren Piotrowski (So. • Greendale) defeated Rachel Brown and Taylor Weuve in the first flight and Morgan Counts (So. • Oshkosh) and Brianna Theobald (So, • Manitowoc) ousted Molly Hendries and Katelyn Presti in the third.

At No. 2 doubles, UW-Oshkosh's Megan Etten (So. • Howard) and Valerie Langkau (So. • Oshkosh) marked an 8-2 triumph over Allison Fortier and Monica Preisig.

UW-Oshkosh had five very decisive wins in singles play, including Piotrowski's 6-0, 6-1 triumph over Preisig in the fourth flight. The Titans also received 6-1, 6-1 victories from Counts over Weuve in the second flight and Langkau over Fortier in the fifth.

Other singles winners for UW-Oshkosh were Bostwick in the first flight, Theobald in the third and Erica Van Riper (Fr. • Waukesha) in the sixth. Bostwick registered a 6-2, 6-1 win over Brown, while Van Riper tallied a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Kristen Finstad. Theobald went overtime to grab a 1-6, 6-3 (10-6) triumph over Presti.

UW-Oshkosh heads to the WIAC Champonship on Oct. 22-23 at the Nielsen Tennis Center in Madison.
