Titans Pull Out Win Over Pioneers

Megan Etten (So. • Howard) won the ninth and deciding contest as the UW-Oshkosh women's tennis team edged Carroll University, 5-4, on Saturday (Sept. 17) at the Kolf Sports Center Complex.

Etten broke a 4-4 deadlock by recording a 7-5, 6-3 victory over Kate Wiseman at No. 6 singles. Etten's victory helped UW-Oshkosh (3-1) defeat Carroll University (3-1) for the fourth time in five meetings.

The Pioneers took an early 2-1 lead on wins by Erin Bowman and Kara Paroubek at No. 2 doubles and Abigail Pellett and Megan Rosenberg at No. 3 doubles. Bowman and Paroubek beat Morgan Counts (So. • Oshkosh) and Preslee Nolte (Fr. • Warren, N.J.), 8-4, while Pellett and Rosenberg ousted Karlie Laveau (Fr. • Waukesha) and Erica Van Riper (Fr. • Waukesha), 8-1.

UW-Oshkosh's lone doubles victory came in the first flight, where Emily Bostwick (Sr. • Whitefish Bay) and Lauren Piotrowski (So. • Greendale) topped Alyssa Larson and Kate Rasmussen, 8-3.

In addition to Etten, the Titans also received singles wins from Bostwick, Nolte and Brianna Theobald (So. • Manitowoc). Bostwick won on a 6-0, 6-3 result over Pellett in the first flight, Nolte on a 6-2, 6-2 decision over Larson in the second and Theobald on a 6-3, 6-2 verdict over Paroubek.

Carroll University earned a pair of wins in singles play as Rasmussen defeated Counts, 6-3, 6-2, in the third flight and Bowman topped Valerie Langkau (So. • Oshkosh), 6-3, 6-0, in the fifth.

UW-Oshkosh hosts UW-Stout at the Kolf Sports Center Complex on Sunday (Sept. 18) in its WIAC opener.
