Titans Bash Blue Devils In WIAC Opener

Brianna Theobald (So. • Manitowoc) won all 20 games that she played in as UW-Oshkosh opened its WIAC women's tennis schedule with a 9-0 victory over UW-Stout on Sunday (Sept. 18) at the Kolf Sports Center Complex.

Theobald teamed with Morgan Counts (So. • Oshkosh) to post an 8-0 win over Michelle Counsell and Callie Mikolajczyk at No. 3 doubles. She then swept Sammie Swanson in scores of 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4 singles.

Counts and Preslee Nolte (Fr. • Warren, N.J.) added impressive singles wins by marking 6-0, 6-1 victories over Stephanie Schick in the third flight and Katie Sorensen in the second, respectively. Nolte also paired with Megan Etten (So. • Howard) to notch an 8-1 triumph over Swanson and Emily Grossen at No. 2 doubles.

UW-Oshkosh (4-1/1-0 WIAC) completed doubles play with an 8-2 victory by Emily Bostwick (Sr. • Whitefish Bay) and Lauren Piotrowski (So. • Greendale) over Sorensen and Abby Werwie in the first flight.

Other singles winners for the Titans were Bostwick in the first flight, Valerie Langkau (So. • Oshkosh) in the fifth and Etten in the sixth. Bostwick tallied a 6-2 6-2 win over Werwie, while Langkau registered a 6-2, 6-0 triumph over Grossen. Etten won on a 7-6, 6-1 result over Elizabeth Lehnertz.

UW-Oshkosh, which defeated UW-Stout (1-6/0-4 WIAC) for the 13th time in 18 matches, is off until it plays at UW-River Falls on Sept. 30.
