Continentals Top Titans In Florida Opener
Emily Bostwick (Sr. • Whitefish Bay), Morgan Counts (So. • Oshkosh) and Erica Van Riper (Fr. • Waukesha) all won in singles play as UW-Oshkosh dropped a 6-3 women's tennis decision to Hamilton College (N.Y.) on Sunday (March 18) in Orlando, Fla.
The Titans, playing for the first time since Oct. 23, received a 6-4, 7-6 win from Bostwick over Carrie Uhlein in the first flight and a 6-2, 6-1 triumph from Counts over Mira Khanna in the third. Van Riper then posted a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Amelia Mattern at No. 5 singles.
Hamilton College (2-2) acquired singles wins from Alex Arenson in the second flight, Sara Shaughnessy in the fourth and Aislinn Shea in the sixth. Arenson defeated Preslee Nolte (Fr. • Warren, N.J.), 6-4, 7-6, while Shaughnessy ousted Karlie Laveau (Fr. • Waukesha), 6-1, 6-1. Shea beat Llora Waldman (Fr. • Wausau), 6-2, 6-3.
The Continentals prevailed in all three doubles contests. Arenson and Meg Lee squeaked by Bostwick and Lauren Piotrowski (So. • Greendale) by a 9-7 score in the first flight, while Khanna and Uhlein edged Counts and Nolte by an 8-6 tally in the second. Shaughnessy and Liz Detwiler completed the doubles sweep with an 8-4 win over Laveau and Van Riper.
UW-Oshkosh (7-5) meets NCAA Division II Augustana College (S.D.) on Monday (March 19) in Orlando.
