Titans' Flawless Season Stalled by Warhawks

The UW-Oshkosh women's tennis team suffered its first loss of the dual season with an 8-1 defeat to UW-Whitewater on Tuesday (Sept. 28) in Oshkosh.

The Titans' No. 2 doubles squad of Lauren Piotrowski (Fr. • Greendale) and Whitney Tornow (Sr. • Neenah) was the only one to gain a victory with its score of 8-5. Next, No. 2 Emily Bostwick (Jr. • Whitefish Bay) weakened her opponent in the first set before falling short in the second for an end score of 6-4, 6-0. The top doubles flight of Bostwick and Liz Leffler (Jr. • Racine) also went down to the Warhawks by a tally of 8-1.

The new No. 3 doubles duo of Megan Etten (Fr. • Howard) and Brianna Theobold (Fr. • Manitowoc) started with a lead of 4-3, only to have their opponents come back and capture an 8-5 victory.

UW-Whitewater's Alexandra Bayliss snapped Piotrowski's undefeated singles record with a score of 6-3, 6-1. The No. 6 singles match had Tornow record a defeat of 6-2, 6-2. At singles No. 1, Leffler fought hard during an unfortunate loss of 6-1, 6-1.

Next up was No. 4 Theobold, who booked a couple wins before Sydney Divelbiss took back the momentum and prevailed 6-1, 6-1. No. 3 Eva Counsell (Jr. • Elkhorn) challenged a Warhawk's defense before being handed a loss of 6-0, 6-0.
