Titans Track Down Pointers

The UW-Oshkosh women's tennis team defeated UW-Stevens Point, 7-2, during its regular-season finale on Saturday (Oct. 16) in Stevens Point.

The Titans (7-3/3-3 WIAC) opened the match with three straight doubles victories. UW-Oshkosh won at No. 1 doubles as Liz Leffler (Jr. • Racine) and Emily Bostwick (Jr. • Whitefish Bay) topped Rachel Brown and Taylor Weuve, 8-4. At No. 2 doubles, Lauren Piotrowski (Fr. • Greendale) and Whitney Tornow (Sr. • Neenah) ousted Katelyn Presti and Leah Benn, 8-1. At No. 3 doubles, Brianna Theobald (Fr. • Manitowoc) and Valerie Langkau (Fr. • Oshkosh) sent back topspins from Monica Preisig and Allison Fortier for an 8-4 win.

Winning in singles play for the Titans were Bostwick in the second flight, Theobald in the fourth, Piotrowski in the fifth and Tornow in the sixth.

Bostwick defeated Weuve by a 6-0, 6-1 score, while Piotrowski routed Benn, 6-0, 6-1. Theobald booked a 6-2, 6-0 decision over Preisig, in addition to Tornow's 6-2, 6-0 triumph against Fortier.

The Pointers obtained victories from their singles competitors in the first and third flights. Rachel Brown put together a 7-5, 6-3 win over Leffler at the top seed. In singles matchup No. 3, Presti battled to a 7-6 (10-8), 6-4 victory against Eva Counsell (Jr. • Elkhorn).

UW-Oshkosh concludes its year at next weekend's (Oct. 23-24) WIAC Championship in Madison.
