Titans Place Third At UW-Whitewater Invitational

Megan Etten (Fr. • Howard) and Lauren Piotrowski (Fr. • Greendale) earned third place at No. 3 doubles to highlight UW-Oshkosh's top-five results at the Warhawk Women's Tennis Invitational on Saturday (Sept. 4) in Whitewater.

Host UW-Whitewater captured the title in the eight-team meet with 50 points. The Warhawks won five of the six flights to outscore UW-La Crosse's second-place score of 34. UW-Oshkosh finished third with 19 points, Grinnell College (Iowa) fourth with 17.5, UW-Eau Claire fifth with 15.5, Carthage College sixth with 11.5, Illinois Wesleyan University seventh with 8.5 and Edgewood College eighth with 3.

UW-Oshkosh stood fourth in four flights, in addition to one fifth-place listing. Etten and Piotrowski started their run with a 4-6, 6-4 (10-7) triumph over UW-Eau Claire's Gretchen Bachmeier and Mary Frassetto. After falling to a UW-La Crosse duo, the Titan pair booked a 7-6 (7), 6-1 win in the third-place match.

Brianna Theobald (Fr. • Manitowoc) defeated Grinnell College's Constanza Alarcon during her first match en route to fourth place at No. 1 singles. Also finishing fourth with a 1-2 mark for the Titans were Valerie Langkau (Fr. • Oshkosh) at No. 2 singles, Liz Leffler (Jr. • Racine) and Emily Bostwick (Jr. • Whitefish Bay) at No. 1 doubles and Whitney Tornow (Sr. • Neenah) and Eva Counsell (Jr. • Elkhorn) at No. 2 doubles.

In the third singles flight, Megan Saari (Fr. • Oshkosh) compiled two wins after dropping her opening match. Saari topped Illinois Wesleyan University's Teresa Banks in the consolation final by a 6-0, 7-5 score.
