Titans Muzzle Pointers

UW-Oshkosh posted victories in the top five singles flights to earn a 7-2 women's tennis win over UW-Stevens Point on Saturday (April 9) in Stevens Point.

Emily Bostwick (Jr. • Whitefish Bay), Brianna Theobald (Fr. • Manitowoc) and Megan Etten (Fr. • Howard) triumphed in both their individual and doubles matches. At No. 1, Bostwick marked a 6-2, 6-2 decision over Rachel Brown. Theobald added a 4-6, 7-5 (10-8) win over Taylor Weuve at #2, while Etten booked a 6-2, 6-2 figure against #5 Allison Fortier.

In the third singles competition, Lauren Piotrowski (Fr. • Greendale) got by Katelyn Presti with a 6-1, 6-3 margin. Whitney Tornow (Sr. • Neenah) then pulled out a 6-2, 6-2 victory vs. Monica Preisig at #4. The first doubles match went to Brown and Weuve, who topped Piotrowski and Tornow, 8-6.

The other Pointer (4-8) win came at No. 6 singles when Natalie Casillas defeated Valerie Langkau (Fr. • Oshkosh) by a 2-6, 6-3 (10-6) tally.

The Titans (8-7) captured the remaining doubles events, including an 8-1 decision by Langkau and Theobald over Presti and Linzy Reinders. Bostwick and Etten concluded the day with an 8-2 win against Fortier and Preisig.

UW-Oshkosh will face UW-Whitewater (19-5/6-0 WIAC) to begin the WIAC Tournament on April 30 in Whitewater. The Titans' second match of the event will be against either UW-Eau Claire or UW-La Crosse. The winner of the four-team competition will earn a spot in the NCAA Division III Tournament.
