Titans Stifled By Flying Dutch

Brianna Theobald (Fr. • Manitowoc) fought for a tiebreaker victory to give UW-Oshkosh its only women's tennis victory during an 8-1 loss to Hope College (Mich.) on Thursday (March 24) in Orlando, Fla.

At No. 2 singles, Theobald gained her 7-5, 7-6 (10-7) decision over Leah LeBarge. The Titans (7-7) also had a test in the first flight, as Emily Bostwick (Jr. • Whitefish Bay) fell to Katherine Garcia by a 6-3, 7-6 (10-4) tally.

Garcia and LaBarge teamed up to defeat Bostwick and Lauren Piotrowski (Fr. • Greendale) in No. 1 doubles, 8-6. In the third flight, Sarah Foder and Stephanie Huffman recorded a 9-7 win against Andrea Larson (Fr. • Hartland) and Haley Ott (So. • Marshfield). Hope College swept doubles play with an 8-1 win from Andrea Pickelman and Shelby Schultz vs. Megan Etten (Fr. • Howard) and Valerie Langkau (Fr. • Oshkosh).

Piotrowski dropped a close match (6-4, 6-4) to Casey Baxter at No. 3 singles. In the fourth contest, Langkau was bested by Shelby Schultz, 6-1, 6-1. Melissa Bieri's fifth-flight triumph of 6-2, 6-2 over Etten, along with Mallory Smith's 6-3, 6-1 victory against Megan Saari (Fr. • Oshkosh), completed the day's action.
