Titans Conquer Pioneers

Whitney Tornow's (Sr. • Neenah) perfect showing highlighted numerous Titan victories as the UW-Oshkosh women's tennis team defeated Carroll University, 8-1, on Saturday (Sept. 18) in Oshkosh.

Tornow gained a pair of 6-0 set wins to easily win her sixth flight match. After that, No. 5 Lauren Piotrowski (Fr. • Greendale) served up another crushing victory with her score of 6-2, 6-3. Next up was No. 4 Brianna Theobold (Fr. • Manitowoc), who achieved a win of 6-2, 6-0.

A great doubles defense was shown by No. 2 Megan Saari (Fr. • Oshkosh) and Megan Etten (Fr. • Howard), earning a triumph of 8-4. Then the No. 3 duo of Piotrowski and Tornow continued their hot streak with an unfaltering decision of 8-1.

There was great battle between the No. 1 teams, as Liz Leffler (Jr. • Racine) and Emily Bostwick (Jr. • Whitefish Bay) sparred with a pair of Pioneers. The Titans battled back to win 9-7. Next was a close match, with Eva Counsell (Jr. • Elkhorn) defeating Erin Mohrbacker by a tally of 6-3, 6-3. No. 2 singles player Bostwick marked her win by a score of 6-2, 6-3.

The only loss that the Titans suffered was in a strong battle from their No. 1. Leffler was defeated in a score of 6-4, 6-3 by Sam Rasmussen.
