Schiro, Schroeder, Showalter Pace Titans At Carthage College Classic

UW-Oshkosh used a victory from Bailey Schroeder in the 1-meter diving and a school-record performance from Cadence Showalter in the 400-yard individual medley to finish sixth among 11 programs at the Carthage College Women's Swimming & Diving Classic held Thursday through Saturday (Dec. 2-4) in Kenosha.

Schroeder defeated 15 other contestants in the 1-meter diving with her winning score of 409.85. Sam Vande Pol of Kalamazoo College (Mich.) finished second in the event with 387.30 points.

Showalter had a strong meet for the Titans by finishing third in the 400-yard individual medley with a school-record time of 4:43.36 and helping four relay squads place in the top seven. Showalter broke the previous 400-yard individual medley record of 4:45.84 set by Britney Hilgendorf on February 21, 2014. 

In the relays, Showalter assisted Emma Hall, Francesca Schiro and Brianna Smith to a fourth-place time of 8:11.74 in the 800-yard freestyle; Schiro, Morgan Beckett and Grace Fergus to a sixth-place time of 1:53.70 in the 200-yard medley; Beckett, Fergus and Schiro to a seventh-place time of 4:09.85 in the 400-yard medley; and Hall, Schiro and Smith to a seventh-place time of 3:43.76 in the 400-yard freestyle.

Schiro added to her outstanding meet by finishing third in both the 50- and 100-yard freestyles with times of 24.88 and 53.65 seconds, respectively. She also ranked seventh in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:59.61.

UW-Oshkosh diver Ella Thibert contributed a third-place score of 355.05 off the 1-meter board and a fifth-place figure of 334.50 off the 3-meter plank.

Beckett also supplied a pair of top nine swims with her sixth-place time of 1:11.04 in the 100- and 2:36.73 in the 200-yard breaststrokes.

The Titans additionally received a sixth-place score of 302.00 in the 3-meter diving from Allie Wucak and 10th-place results of 1:03.96 in the 100-yard backstroke from Fergus and 250.95 in the 3-meter diving from Emelia Smith.

Carthage College scored 2,500.5 points to claim the team title. The Firebirds were followed by second-place Lake Forest College (Ill.) with 1,653 points, third-place Illinois Wesleyan University with 1,591.5, fourth-place Kalamazoo College with 1,517, fifth-place St. Norbert College with 1,057.5 and sixth-place UW-Oshkosh with 1,034.

UW-Oshkosh is off until it competes in a dual meet at Beloit College on Jan. 7.
