Titans Win Five-Team Gene Davis Invitational

UW-Oshkosh benefited from the impressive efforts of Cadence Showalter and Francesca Schiro to win the five-team Lawrence University Gene Davis Women's Swimming & Diving Invitational Saturday (Nov. 13) in Appleton.

The Titans finished first in six of the meet's 18 events to capture the team title with 589 points. Lawrence University placed second to UW-Oshkosh with 543 points while St. Norbert College listed third with 458, Ripon College fourth with 311 and Beloit College fifth with 296.

Showalter defeated 15 other participants in the 200-yard freestyle and four other challengers in the 400-yard individual medley with her first-place times of 2:03.05 and 4:58.67, respectively. She also finished second in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:22.87 while swimming with Schiro, Emma Hall and Brianna Smith for a winning performance of 3:53.46 in the 200-yard freestyle relay.

Schiro beat 16 other contestants in the 100-yard freestyle with her winning time of 55.86 seconds while placing second in the 50- and 500-yard freestyles with swims of 26.26 seconds and 5:36.31, respectively.

UW-Oshkosh's Olivia Davis ousted one other entrant in the 200-yard butterfly with her victorious time of 2:43.95 while placing eighth in the 100-yard butterfly at 1:13.61. She also helped Natalie Flom, Ava Marx and Emelia Smith register a fifth-place time of 1:53.23 in the 200-yard freestyle relay.

Titan Bailey Schroeder added a victory in the 1-meter diving with her score of 397.55. She defeated 10 other divers in the event.

Brianna Smith also contributed a second-place time of 20:22.45 in the 1,650-yard freestyle and a fifth-place effort of 5:54.17 in the 500-yard freestyle.

In the diving, UW-Oshkosh's Ella Thibert finished second with 336.80 points off the 1-meter board and 357.25 off the 3-meter plank.

UW-Oshkosh's Morgan Beckett was involved in a trio of third-place finishes. She swam to breaststroke times of 1:16.05 at 100 and 2:45.97 at 200 yards while helping Moriah Drabenstadt, Grace Fergus and Corrina Winkler to a performance of 2:02.38. Beckett also recorded a seventh-place time of 2:30.18 in the 200-yard individual medley.

Fergus additionally placed third in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:08.26 and fourth in both the 200-yard backstroke and 200-yard individual medley with her swims of 2:25.67 and 2:28.37, respectively.

Winkler also finished third in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:07.26.

Titan Allie Wucak placed in a pair of diving events by totaling 276.55 in the 3-meter category and 320.35 in the 1-meter section.

Marx continued UW-Oshkosh's top-eight mentions by finishing fourth in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:16.74 and sixth in the 50-yard freestyle at 27.26 seconds while Hall placed fifth in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:28.40 and sixth in the 200-yard freestyle at 2:12.02.

The Titans also had Brianna Smith finish fifth in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:54.17 and both Drabenstadt and Flom eighth in the 100-yard breaststroke and 500-yard freestyle with swims of 1:21.18 and 6:46.55, respectively. 

UW-Oshkosh will compete in a dual meet at St. Norbert College next Saturday (Nov. 20).
