Blugolds Oust Titans In Season Opener

Francesca Schiro finished second in two individual events and swam the first leg of a second-place relay during UW-Oshkosh's 177.5-51.5 season-opening loss to the UW-Eau Claire women's swimming & diving team Saturday (Oct. 16) in Eau Claire.

UW-Eau Claire, an associate of UW-Oshkosh in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, spoiled the Titans' inaugural performance of the 2021-22 season by winning each of the meet's 13 events and totaling 34 of the competition's 47 top-four results.

Schiro earned her individual second-place finishes with times of 26.02 seconds in the 50-yard freestyle and 1:15.33 in the 100-yard breaststroke. She also helped Emma Hall, Cadence Showalter and Brianna Smith register a second-place time of 1:50.13 in the 200-yard freestyle relay.

The Titans had two additional second-place results as Smith and Grace Fergus recorded swims of 6:09.48 in the 500-yard freestyle and 1:07.42 in the 100-yard backstroke, respectively.

Showalter also owned a pair of two-four finishes. She placed second in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 2:09.41 and third in the 100-yard free with a performance of 58.99 seconds.

Other third-place listings belonged to Titans Morgan Beckett, Emma Hall, and Bailey Schroeder. Beckett and Hall swam to times of 1:15.62 in the 100-yard breaststroke and 1:09.87 in the 100-yard backstroke, respectively, while Schroeder tallied 186.85 points in the 1-meter diving.

UW-Oshkosh furthermore received a third-place time of 1:55.45 in the 200-yard freestyle relay from Moriah Drabenstadt, Natalie Flom, Emelia Smith, and Corrina Winkler.

The last of UW-Oshkosh's 13 top-four finishes were acquired by Ava Marx and Ella Thibert. Both Titans finished fourth – Marx with a time of 1:18.33 in the 100-yard breaststroke and Thibert with 159.85 points in the 3-meter diving.

UW-Oshkosh's annual Alumni Meet is scheduled for next Saturday (Oct. 23) in Albee Hall. The Titans then host Carroll University on Oct. 30 and UW-Whitewater on Nov. 6 in their home venue.
