Titans Outscored By Warhawks

Gabrielle Kraus and McKinzie Halkola were event winners during UW-Oshkosh's 160-78 defeat to the UW-Whitewater women's swimming & diving team on Friday (Nov. 10) in Whitewater.

Kraus, a two-time NCAA Division III regional qualifier, captured the 1-meter diving with a score of 218.25. She won the event by 54 points over UW-Whitewater's Kasey Mrkvicka.

Halkola swam to a winning time of 2:15.99 in the 200-yard backstroke while placing second in the 200-yard freestyle with an effort of 2:04.98. Erin Hawker of UW-Whitewater finished second to Halkola in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:17.70 while the Warhawks' Olivia Theobald won the 200-yard freestyle in 1:59.50.

UW-Oshkosh's Sydney Challoner recorded a pair of second-place finishes with her swims of 2:20.07 in the 200-yard butterfly and 2:35.27 in the 200-yard breaststroke. UW-Whitewater owner the winner in both events as Meredith Gustafson won the 200-yard butterfly in 2:17.64 while Alexis Olson won the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:34.52.

Also finishing second for the Titans were Rebecca Birriel in the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 5:06.40 and Elizabeth Kelly in the 500-yard freestyle in 6:03.92. The Warhawks won both events as Hawker swam to a time of 4:51.19 in the 400-yard individual medley and Theobald to a performance of 5:27.27 in the 500-yard freestyle.

Five Titans marked third-place results, including Johnna Seelman in the 3-meter diving with 137.20 points. UW-Oshkosh additionally received third-place times of 12:18.74 from Cortney Claypool in the 1,000-yard freestyle, 6:11.54 from Lexi Gray in the 500-yard freestyle, 2:24.26 from Jennifer Lutz in the 200-yard butterfly and 2:05.71 from Tessa Shorten in the 200-yard freestyle.

UW-Oshkosh's fourth-place listings were also by five different team members. The Titans earned those results with the 142.95 points from Seelman in the 1-meter diving and the times of 2:40.89 from Birriel in the 200-yard breaststroke, 12:27.24 from Kelly in the 1,000-yard freestyle, 57.93 seconds from Shorten in the 100-yard backstroke and 6:17.67 from Brianna Beseler in the 500-yard freestyle.

The Titans finished second in the 400-yard medley relay as Challoner, Halkola, Lutz and Shorten swam to a time of 4:13.13.

UW-Whitewater won 11 of the 13 events, including the two apiece by Gustafson and Theobald.

UW-Oshkosh participates at the Lawrence University Invitational next Saturday (Nov. 18) in Appleton.
