Pioneers Outperform Titans

UW-Oshkosh's Tessa Shorten took first place in two individual events and swam on a victorious relay team during the Titans' 125-80 defeat to the Carroll University women's swimming & diving team on Saturday (Oct. 28) in Waukesha. 

Shorten began the meet by posting a winning time of 4:14.24 in the 400-yard medley relay with Sydney Challoner, McKinzie Halkola and Jennifer Lutz. She then recorded winning times of 57.12 seconds in the 100-yard freestyle and 2:04.97 in the 200-yard freestyle.

Lutz earned UW-Oshkosh's third victory by winning the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:02.92. She also placed fourth in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:06.90.

Challoner and Halkola both contributed a pair of second-place finishes. Challoner swam to times of 1:12.07 in the 100-yard breaststroke and 2:21.11 in the 200-yard individual medley while Halkola swam to times of 2:04.99 in the 200-yard freestyle and 5:35.29 in the 500-yard freestyle.

The Titans' Alison Panske recorded a pair of third-place finishes by marking freestyle times of 27.03 seconds at 50 yards and 59.01 seconds at 100.

Two of UW-Oshkosh's four remaining fourth-place finishes belonged to Rebecca Birriel, who earned her listings with times of 1:16.62 in the 100-yard breaststroke and 2:27.99 in the 200-yard individual medley.

Cortney Claypool and Emma Wilcher had the Titans' other fourth-place mentions with their times of 20:55.87 in the 1,650-yard freestyle and 1:08.51 in the 100-yard butterfly, respectively.

The meet did not include diving.

UW-Oshkosh is idle until it competes at UW-Whitewater on Nov. 10.
