Challoner Paces Titans At WIAC Championship

UW-Oshkosh's Katie Challoner finished second in a pair of breaststroke events and Taylor Teske once in the backstroke at the WIAC Women's Swimming & Diving Championship (presented by Culver's) held Thursday through Saturday (Feb. 18-20) at the Schroeder Aquatic Center in Brown Deer.

Challoner earned her runner-up mentions by swimming to breaststroke times of 1:05.22 at 100 yards and 2:21.69 at 200. Challoner established school records with her performance in the final of 200-yard event and her effort of 1:05.05 in the preliminary of the 100.

Challoner, who placed second in both breaststroke events for the third straight year, also swam the second leg of UW-Oshkosh's 200-yard medley relay team that finished fifth with a school-record time of 1:49.05. Other members of the record-setting group were Teske, McKinzie Halkola and Alison Panske.

Teske claimed the runner-up position in the 100-yard backstroke with her school-record time of 58.09 seconds. She also finished 10th in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 24.65 seconds.

Halkola and Katie Kubisiak added a pair of top-12 swims for the Titans. Halkola finished 10th in the 200- and 12th in the 100-yard backstroke with times of 2:12.59 and 1:01.48, respectively, while Kubisiak placed 10th in the 200- and 11th in the 100-yard breaststroke with times of 2:30.81 and 1:08.48, respectively.

In the diving, UW-Oshkosh received two performances in top 11 from both Gabrielle Kraus and Sally Hesby. The 3-meter event featured Kraus placing sixth with 398.30 points, Hesby 10th with 381.75 and Colleen Barnstable 12th with 310.25. Kraus finished ninth off the 1-meter board with 395.25 points and Hesby 11th with 364.15.

Houts completed UW-Oshkosh's list of top 12 finishes with her 11th-place time of 18:47.88 in the 1,650-yard freestyle.

UW-La Crosse scored 806 points to edge UW-Eau Claire's sum of 798 for the team title. It was the fifth consecutive title for the Eagles and 16th in school history.

UW-Whitewater placed third in the five-team meet with 693 points, while UW-Stevens Point finished fourth 546 and UW-Oshkosh fifth with 284.

UW-Eau Claire's Samantha Senczyszyn was named Swimmer of the Meet and UW-Whitewater's Sierra Becker Diver of the Meet. UW-Eau Claire's Annie Ryder was selected as the Coach of the Year.
