Harvey Leads Titans At WIAC Championship

Melissa Harvey’s (So. • Iron Mountain, Mich.) fifth-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke led UW-Oshkosh’s list of performances at the WIAC Women’s Swimming and Diving Championship held Thursday through Saturday (Feb. 11-13) in Minneapolis, Minn.

Harvey earned the Titans’ top individual finish by swimming to a time of 1:00.52 in the 100-yard backstroke. UW-La Crosse’s Chelsea Hoff won the event with a time of 55.56, while UW-Oshkosh’s Lynnea Krajco (Sr. • Verona) placed seventh in 1:01.05.

Harvey also finished seventh in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:13.50 and 16th in the 200-yard individual medley with an effort of 2:19.53. Krajco added a 10th-place time of 2:11.81 in the 200-yard backstroke.

Emily Shandley (Fr. • Oak Creek) swam to three top-13 listings, including an 11th-place time of 55.10 in the 100-yard freestyle. She also placed 13th in both the 50-yard freestyle and 200-yard freestyle with times of 25.55 and 2:01.09, respectively.

UW-Oshkosh’s Angie Picotte (Sr. • Andover, Minn.) contributed three top-14 finishes by ranking ninth in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:59.71, 12th in 100-yard freestyle with a period of 55.34 and 14th in the 50-yard freestyle with a segment of 25.74.

The Titans also received a pair of top-12 finishes from Leanne Bowen (Fr. • Dardenne Prairie, Mo.), Cassie Dutko (Fr. • Oshkosh) and Katie Duffey (Fr. • McFarland).

Bowen placed 10th in the one-meter diving with 259.70 points and 11th in the three-meter diving with 237.30. Dutko finished 10th in the three-meter diving with a score of 250.95 and 12th in the one-meter diving with a value of 240.95. Duffey graded 11th in the 200-yard butterfly and 12th in the 100-yard butterfly with times of 2:23.21 and 1:02.13, respectively.

In the relays, UW-Oshkosh recorded fifth-place times of 1:41.82 in the 200-yard freestyle, 3:42.60 in the 400-yard freestyle, 1:55.76 in the 200-yard medley and 4:13.51 in the 400-yard medley.

UW-Stevens Point scored 878.5 points to take the team title for the second straight year and 12th time overall. UW-La Crosse placed second in the six-team meet with 792 points, UW-Eau Claire third with 788.5, UW-Whitewater fourth with 367, UW-Oshkosh fifth with 236 and UW-River Falls sixth with 171.

The WIAC selected Hoff as both its Swimmer of the Meet and Judy Kruckman Scholar-Athlete of the Year. The league also named Rachel LaValley of UW-La Crosse as its Diver of the Meet and Art Brandt of UW-Eau Claire as its Coach of the Year.
