Women’s Soccer Falls to Dubuque 3-0 in Inaugural 151 Derby

Dubuque, Iowa – The UW-Oshkosh women's soccer team fell to the University of Dubuque (Iowa) in the inaugural 151 Derby rivalry game on Saturday (Sept. 9) in Dubuque.

The Titans (0-3-1) surrendered three goals in the first half to the Spartans (2-2-0), which would end up being the only goals of the game.

The match started with two shots on goal for the Titans; Katie Whitney and Anna Zenz shot, however both were saved by Dubuque's goalkeeper, Karissa Cruz. Cruz concluded the contest with six saves in total.

UWO generated three more opportunities to score before the 35th minute when starting Dubuque forward Emma Kober slotted a goal that was assisted by Alyssa Tranchita. In the 41st minute, Kober would double her tally as she was assisted this time by Autumn Huntington. The Spartans' scoring run would end with Tranchita scoring in the 44th minute, right before half.

The Titans would try to end the shutout in the 66th minute with a shot on goal by Lauren Silvestri, in the 81st minute on a Molly Jackson penalty kick, and the 87th minute off a Gabriella Mattio kick to the bottom left of the goal, but all three were saved by Cruz.

Titans' goalkeeper Emma Sauriol opened the game with three saves in the 10th, 16th and 19th minutes. She would also end the game with six saves in total, allowing no goals in the second half.

The Titans ended the game with a total of 13 shots, six of them on goal. The Titans would also take seven corners throughout the game.

This was the ninth meeting between the Titans and Spartans, who are close Midwest rivals, all since 2014.

The Titans return to J. J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium on Sunday (Sept. 10) at 2 p.m. to face the University of Olivet (Mich.). UWO and Olivet have faced each other once before. The Comets defeated the Titans 2-1 on Sept. 4, 2010 in Oshkosh.
