Titans To Host Blugolds In WIAC Tournament Semifinal

Top seed and regular season champion UW-Oshkosh will host fifth-seeded UW-Eau Claire in the semifinal round of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Women's Soccer Tournament (presented by Culver's) Thursday (Nov. 4) at J. J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m.

UW-Oshkosh (14-2-1) received a bye into the semifinals after going unbeaten in seven WIAC matches to earn its first outright league regular season title in school history and second overall. The Titans previously shared their 2015 conference championship with UW-La Crosse.

UW-Eau Claire (10-8-2) advanced to the semifinals with its 1-0 victory over fourth-seeded UW-Whitewater (12-7) on Tuesday (Nov. 2). The visiting Blugolds scored the contest's lone goal during the 84th minute of play.

Thursday's other semifinal match features second-seeded UW-La Crosse (13-3-2) hosting third-seeded UW-Stevens Point (9-10). UW-La Crosse received a bye in the opening round while UW-Stevens Point advanced with Tuesday's 4-1 home victory over sixth-seeded UW-Stout (11-8-1).

The semifinal winners will meet Saturday (Nov. 6) at the highest remaining seed for the tournament title. The winner of the WIAC Tournament will earn the league's automatic berth into the 64-team NCAA Division III Championship that begins Nov. 13.

The University of North Carolina Greensboro will host the semifinal and national championship rounds at UNCG Soccer Stadium in Greensboro, N.C., Dec. 3-4.

UW-Oshkosh has won its last two meetings with UW-Eau Claire, including a 2-1 decision on Oct. 2 in Eau Claire. The Titans lost a 3-0 decision to the Blugolds during the first round of the 2018 WIAC Tournament. UW-Eau Claire holds a 24-13-3 advantage in a series that dates back to 1993.

UW-Oshkosh is a two-time WIAC Tournament champion. The Titans captured league postseason titles in 2011 and 2014.

UW-Eau Claire won its three conference tournament championships during the years of 2005 through 2007.

UW-La Crosse won the WIAC Tournament in 2018 and UW-Whitewater in 2019 before the 2020 league postseason event was canceled due to the novel coronavirus pandemic.

The top seed has won 62 of 68 matches with two ties since the first WIAC Tournament in 1992.
