Six Players Score As Titans Shut Out Sabres

Six different Titans scored as the UW-Oshkosh women's soccer team registered a 6-0 victory over Marian University Saturday (Sept. 4) at J. J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium.

UW-Oshkosh improved its record to 2-0 on the season by defeating the Sabres (0-1-1) for the 12th straight time.

UW-Oshkosh, which posted a 7-0 win over Ripon College on Sept. 1, has now begun a season with consecutive shutout victories for the first time since 2003. The Titans' 13 goals this season are the most after two matches in the program's 28-year history.

Scoring goals for the Titans on Saturday were Alyssa Gunderson, Maddie Hill, Rylie Kaufmann, Mallory Knight, Mackenzie Stein and Erin Toboyek. Piper Green assisted on two of the scores and Kaufmann one.

Hill opened UW-Oshkosh's parade of goals with her 19-yard kick off a pass from Green just 6:52 into play. The score was Hill's first of the season.

The Titans held their one-goal advantage until Stein scored in the game's 32nd minute (31:07) off a serve from Kaufmann. Stein's second goal of the season was a kick from 11-yards out.

UW-Oshkosh took a 2-0 lead to intermission as it outshot Marian University, 16-4, in the opening period.

Knight extended the Titans' advantage to 3-0 with her short 1-yard kick 15 minutes (59:24) into the second half. Knight's goal, which followed a pass from Green, was her first of the year.

UW-Oshkosh then received unassisted goals from Toboyek and Gunderson in the contest's 71st (70:14) and 79th (79:00) minute, respectively, to go ahead 5-0. It was the first goal of the season for both players, including the first career score for Toboyek.

UW-Oshkosh closed its scoring on a successful penalty kick by Kaufmann in the 81st minute (80:06). The goal was Kaufmann's second of the season.

The Titans finished the match with 34 shots, including 16 on goal. UW-Oshkosh was paced by the six shots from both Hill and Knight and five from Green.

Marian University was held to just five shots and only two on goal. Ashley Welk had both shots on goal for the Sabres.

UW-Oshkosh goalkeeper Erin Toomey played the entire contest. Her sixth career shutout featured saves in the 16th and 22nd minute of activity.

Amy Birner guarded the Marian University goal in first half and Kylie Lange in the second. Birner had seven saves and two goals allowed while Lange had three saves and four scores allowed.

The Titans had all of the contest's 11 corner kicks.

UW-Oshkosh continues its season-opening four-game homestand with Monday's (Sept. 6) match at J. J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium against Bethel University (Minn.) (2-0).
