Titans Put Blugolds Away In Second Half

Rachel Elliott scored twice in the second half to seal a 3-0 victory for the UW-Oshkosh women's soccer team over UW-Eau Claire on Saturday (Oct. 24) at J. J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium.

Elliott gave UW-Oshkosh (11-3-1, 4-1 WIAC) a 2-0 lead with a 12-yard kick off a pass from Christina Mauthe during the 56th minute (55:36) of play. Elliott then put the Titans ahead, 3-0, with an 8-yard boot off a serve from Alexis Brewer in the 66th (65:14) minute. The goals were Elliott's second and third of the season.

Courtney Leister opened the scoring for the Titans in the 10th minute (9:45) of action. She followed Robyn Elliott's corner kick with a brilliant eight-yard header into the net for her third goal of the season.

UW-Oshkosh owned all seven shots of the opening period, including five that were saved by UW-Eau Claire goalkeeper Sammie Lefaive. The Titans attempted seven more shots in the second half, but only one that required a stop by substitute UW-Eau Claire goalkeeper Emily Byal.

UW-Eau Claire (4-9-3, 3-3 WIAC) launched its first shot with 42:55 left in the second half. The Blugolds were held to just three shots overall, all which were saved by UW-Oshkosh goalkeeper Nina Muzi.

UW-Oshkosh's shot count included four from Rachel Elliott and three from both Leister and Robyn Elliott. Tara Dennehy, Danielle Jensen and Shoua Khang recorded one shot apiece for UW-Eau Claire. 

The Titans' earned all eight of the game's corner kicks, including six in the first 10 minutes of play.

UW-Oshkosh marked its fourth straight win over UW-Eau Claire and its sixth shutout of the season. The Titans, who have gone 9-1-1 in their last 11 matches, have allowed just 13 goals on the year.

UW-Oshkosh is the host of Concordia University Wisconsin (13-1-2) on Sunday (Oct. 25) at J. J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium.
