Titans Close California Trip With Shutout Victory

The UW-Oshkosh women's soccer team capped a two-game trip to California with a 4-0 win over Mills College (Calif.) on Sunday (Sept. 27) in Santa Cruz.

Four different players tallied goals for UW-Oshkosh, including Alek Kleis, who scored directly from a corner kick in the 27th minute (26:08) to put the Titans ahead, 1-0. Kleis recorded her team-leading sixth goal of the season on her only shot of the contest.

The Titans (6-2) took a slim 1-0 lead to intermission despite taking all 18 shots of the opening period.

UW-Oshkosh put its first-time opponent away with three goals in the first 26 minutes of the second half.

Robyn Elliott gave the Titans a 2-0 lead when she scored off a 25-yard free kick during the 52nd minute (51:29). Elliott has four goals on the season after scoring in her third consecutive match.

Nine minutes later (60:01), Alyssa Arnold extended UW-Oshkosh's lead with a 12-yard kick that came after a sloppy clearance by the Cyclones. The goal was Arnold's fourth of the season.

Christina Mauthe closed the scoring for the Titans with her second goal of the season during the 71st minute (70:03) of play.

UW-Oshkosh held Mills College (0-9) to just one shot, a Lindsey Parscal kick that was steered away by Titan goalkeeper Fiona Neary in the 77th minute (76:01).

Neary guarded the UW-Oshkosh goal for the entire second half and stopped the only shot she faced. Nina Muzi started at goalkeeper for the Titans and didn't face a shot.

Tayla Muise played the entire match at goalkeeper for Mills College. She saved nine shots, including six in the opening period. The Cyclones also had a pair of first-half team saves.

UW-Oshkosh finished the match with 29 shots and a 10-1 advantage in corner kicks. Elliott led the Titans with five shots, while five different players had three each.

The Titans resume action with next Saturday's (Oct. 3) WIAC contest at UW-Stout.
