Titans Earn Narrow Win Over Dutch

Alyssa Arnold scored the decisive goal early in the second half to give the UW-Oshkosh women's soccer team a 2-1 victory over Central College (Iowa) on Sunday (Sept. 20) at J. J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium.

UW-Oshkosh (4-2) captured the tightly contested match despite marking a 22-4 advantage in shots. The Titans attempted 11 shots in each period.

UW-Oshkosh struck first when Robyn Elliott blasted her 10-yard shot into the right corner of the net during the 27th minute (26:36) of play. Christina Mauthe provided the pass that led to Elliott's third goal of the season.

The Titans had an opportunity to double its lead in the 38th minute (37:59), but a Central College defender blocked a kick by Felicia Retrum.

Kayla Sunvold was able to even the score for the Dutch (4-3) when she sent her 12-yard strike into the left corner of the net during the game's 51st minute (50:09). Her goal followed a pass from Kallie Holte.

The tie between the teams didn't last long as Arnold recorded her second match-winning goal of the season in the 53rd minute (52:14). Arnold's score, an unassisted kick from 10 yards out, was her second of the year.

Central College had very few opportunities to force another tie as UW-Oshkosh limited the Dutch to just two shots after Arnold's goal.

UW-Oshkosh's 22 shots included three each from Elliott, Mauthe, Kendra Jepson and Megan Paulick. Four players had one shot each for Central College.

UW-Oshkosh goalkeeper Nina Muzi stopped three shots to earn the win. Central College goalkeeper Sydney Lunardi saved 10 shots while a Dutch teammate blocked another.

The Titans travel to California this weekend for matches in Santa Cruz against the University of California-Santa Cruz on Saturday (Sept. 26) and Mills College (Calif.) on Sunday (Sept. 27).
