Warhawks Hand Titans First WIAC Loss

The UW-Oshkosh women's soccer team suffered its first WIAC loss of the season to four-time defending league champion and 16th-ranked UW-Whitewater, 1-0, on Wednesday (Oct. 15) in Whitewater.

UW-Whitewater (13-2, 6-0 WIAC), which is now the lone unbeaten team in the WIAC, extended its winning streak to 10 games with the victory. The Warhawks have won their last 27 WIAC contests.

UW-Whitewater scored its decisive goal during the 17th minute (16:21) of play. After a UW-Oshkosh foul on the Titans' defensive end, UW-Whitewater's Carina Krausert converted a 25-yard free kick that snuck just inside the right post. The goal was her third of the season.

UW-Whitewater nearly made it a 2-0 score in the game's 22nd minute, but consecutive shots from Krausert were saved by UW-Oshkosh goalkeeper Nina Muzi.

Muzi and Jordan Myers of UW-Whitewater were stellar in their effort of protecting their goals, especially in the first half. Muzi recorded seven of her 10 saves and Myers all five of her saves in the opening period.

The tempo favored UW-Whitewater in the second half. The Warhawks posted a 10-2 advantage in shots and owned the only three shots on goal during the period.

UW-Oshkosh (7-5-1, 3-1 WIAC) finished the match with 10 shots and two corner kicks. Sisters Robyn and Rachel Elliott led the Titans with four and two shots, respectively. Robyn Elliott had two of UW-Oshkosh's five shots on goal.

UW-Whitewater's 19 shots included six from Brianne Reid, five from Krausert and two from both Jordan Jackson and Marie Lepserance. Krausert paced the Warhawks with four shots on goal.

UW-Oshkosh remains on the road for a match at UW-Eau Claire on Saturday (Oct. 18).
