Titans Host Falcons In WIAC Tournament Opener

UW-Oshkosh hosts UW-River Falls for the second time this season when the two women's soccer teams meet in a first-round match of the WIAC Tournament on Tuesday (Oct. 30) at J.J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium.

UW-Oshkosh, which captured the tournament title a year ago, enters the 6 p.m. contest with an 11-4-3 record. The Titans earned the fourth seed for this year's tournament after concluding league play with a 4-2-2 record.

UW-Oshkosh has won 11-plus matches for the second straight season and seventh time overall. The Titans own a two-game winning streak after defeating UW-Platteville, 4-1, on Oct. 23 and UW-Stout, 3-0, on Oct. 27.

UW-River Falls brings an 8-7-3 record into its match with UW-Oshkosh. The fifth-seeded Falcons finished conference action with a 3-3-2 mark.

UW-River Falls has compiled a 3-1-2 record in its last six matches. The mark includes a 1-0 victory over UW-Eau Claire on Oct. 13 and a 2-0 loss to regular-season champion UW-Whitewater on Oct. 27.

Tuesday's contest is the 23rd between the teams. UW-River Falls holds a slim 11-9-2 advantage in a series that dates back to 1994. UW-Oshkosh has won five of the last eight meetings, but played to a scoreless, double-overtime tie with the Falcons on Sept. 22.

Another first-round contest scheduled for Tuesday has sixth-seeded UW-La Crosse (5-8-4) visiting third-seeded and 15-time tournament champion UW-Stevens Point (12-5).

The WIAC Tournament will be re-seeded for Thursday's (Nov. 1) semifinal round. Those matches feature the lowest remaining seed playing at top-seeded UW-Whitewater (13-4-1) and the highest remaining seed playing at second-seeded UW-Eau Claire (9-7-2).

The championship match is scheduled for Saturday (Nov. 3) at the site of the highest remaining seed. The winner of the WIAC Tournament receives the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championship.
