Kierszh, Palmquist Voted To All-WIAC Team
Midfielder Chelsea Kierszh (Jr. • Oshkosh) and defender Nicole Palmquist (So. • Oshkosh) have been selected to the 2012 All-WIAC Women's Soccer Team.
The league recognized 24 players, including Kierszh as a two-time honoree. Christina Tooren of regular-season champion UW-Whitewater was named the Offensive Player of the Year and Saskia Taylor of UW-La Crosse the Defensive Player of the Year. UW-Whitewater's Ryan Quamme was voted Coach of the Year.
Kierszh started 18 of the Titans' 19 matches and scored three goals while assisting on another. She scored twice during UW-Oshkosh's 4-1 victory over UW-Platteville on Oct. 22 and tallied the winning goal in the Titans' 2-0 win over St. Norbert College on Oct. 2. Kierszh has totaled 19 goals and four assists during her 60-match career.
Palmquist also started 18 of UW-Oshkosh's 19 contests. She was part of a defense that led the WIAC with a 0.91 goals against average. The Titans shut out eight opponents and allowed a league-low 18 goals. Palmquist's lone career goal came during UW-Oshkosh's 4-2 loss to UW-Eau Claire on Sept. 29. Her 37-match career also includes two assists.
UW-Whitewater owned seven All-WIAC selections. In addition to Tooren, the Warhawks had Alyssa Chamberlain, Kelsey Finn, Jordan Myers, Laren Nashleanas, Sarah Sedlar and Jenna Woodson chosen.
Other UW-La Crosse selections were Megan Blazer and Sagan Pizzingrilli.
Rounding out the squad were Paige LeGate, Ashley O'Connell, Kara Ryan, Allie Stone and Gina Williams of UW-Eau Claire, Carly Falk, Angela Gallow, Sammy Greer and Jessica Ruch of UW-Stevens Point and Carlin Bunting, Alyssa Manor and Cassie Stang of UW-River Falls.
UW-Oshkosh compiled an 11-5-3 record for its fourth consecutive winning season. The Titans placed fourth in the WIAC with a 4-2-2 record.
