Maroons Edge Titans On Late Goal

UW-Oshkosh was held to just four shots as it suffered a 1-0 loss to the University of Chicago (Ill.) women's soccer team on Saturday (Oct. 20) at J.J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium.

The Maroons' Brigette Kragie scored the match-winning goal on a seven-yard kick in the 83rd minute (82:37) of play. Kragie's seventh goal of the season came with an assist from Sara Kwan.

After a scoreless first half, the University of Chicago (10-5) increased the level of pressure in the second. The Maroons posted an 11-1 advantage in shots over the final 45 minutes of play, including seven attempts that were saved by UW-Oshkosh goalkeeper Katie Berkopec (Jr. • Apple Valley, Minn.).

The University of Chicago finished the match with 16 shots and two corner kicks. Kragie, Micaela Harms and Natalia Jovanovic paced the Maroons with three shots each.

UW-Oshkosh (9-4-3) attempted three of its four shots in the first half and earned four of its six corner kicks in the second. Nicole Palmquist (So. • Oshkosh) led the Titans with two shots, while Becca Blue (Sr. • Kimberly) and Ashley Nicholas (Jr. • Wrightstown) added one each.

University of Chicago goalkeeper Mallory Morse saved two shots, both in the first half. Berkopec concluded the match with eight saves.

The contest was the first between the teams.

UW-Oshkosh, which has already clinched its fourth straight winning season, travels to UW-Platteville for a WIAC contest on Monday (Oct. 22).
