Titans Shut Out Perennial WIAC Power

A second-half score from Carly Roiniotis (Sr. • Pleasant Prairie) lifted the nationally ranked UW-Oshkosh women's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over perennial WIAC power UW-Stevens Point on Wednesday (Sept. 19) at J.J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium.

The first period included 45 scoreless minutes and a weather delay of nearly two hours. Early in the second half, UW-Oshkosh's Avery Schneider (Jr. • De Pere) passed the ball to Amanda Baalke (So. • Pewaukee), who fed Roiniotis perfectly for her first collegiate goal. Roiniotis dribbled the ball 20 yards down the field before scoring from seven yards out in the 58th minute (57:30) of play.

UW-Stevens Point, which has captured three of the last four WIAC titles and 14 overall, posted advantages of 20-8 in shots and 7-1 in corner kicks. The Pointers (5-2/1-1 WIAC) were led by the five shots of Jessica Ruch and the four of Kim Jobke. Megan White (So. • Kimberly) paced UW-Oshkosh (6-0-1/2-0 WIAC) with two shots.

UW-Oshkosh goalkeeper Katie Berkopec (Jr. • Apple Valley, Minn.) saved six shots while recording her third shutout of the season. Kristen Churkey had three goalkeeping saves for the Pointers.

UW-Oshkosh, which entered the match ranked 18th in the NCAA Division III by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, defeated UW-Stevens Point in consecutive meetings for the first time ever.

The Titans welcome UW-River Falls to J.J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium on Saturday (Sept. 22).
