Titans Shut Out Yellowjackets In WIAC Opener

Nicole Strieker (Sr. • Janesville) and Jenna Lahmann (Fr. • Wauwatosa) scored just 20 seconds apart to give UW-Oshkosh a 3-0 women's soccer win over UW-Superior on Saturday (Sept. 15) in Duluth, Minn.

UW-Oshkosh, which entered its WIAC opener ranked 16th in the NCAA Division III by the National Soccer Coaches Association, posted its fourth shutout in matches. The Titans (5-0-1/1-0 WIAC) have won all 20 of their meetings with UW-Superior (2-3/0-1 WIAC).

A scoreless first half was followed by three UW-Oshkosh goals in a span of 9:03. Strieker got things going for the Titans when she scored off an assist from Amanda Baalke (So. • Pewaukee) in the 65th minute (64:03) of play. Twenty seconds later (64:23), Becca Blue (Sr. • Kimberly) set up Lahmann's second goal of the season.

With 17 minutes (73:06) left in the match, Ashley Nicholas (Jr. • Wrightstown) scored an unassisted goal to create the Titans' final margin of victory.

UW-Oshkosh compiled a 26-6 edge in shots, using five from Nicholas and three from Strieker. The Yellowjackets had six players take one shot each. The Titans also gained a 5-1 advantge in corner kicks.

Katie Berkopec
(Jr. • Apple Valley, Minn.) guarded the UW-Oshkosh goal for the first 81 minutes (81:15) and made one save. Angela Christenson (Fr. • Racine) then replaced Berkopec didn't face a shot during her nine minutes (8:45) of action.

UW-Superior goalkeeper Alexandra Paige played the entire match and saved 12 shots.

UW-Oshkosh continues WIAC action with a match against UW-Stevens Point on Wednesday (Sept. 19) at J.J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium.
