Lady Reds Bounce Back To Force Tie With Titans

UW-Oshkosh had two goals disallowed by offsides calls as it played to a 1-1 tie with the Carthage College women's soccer team on Wednesday (Sept. 12) at J.J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium.

The Titans (4-0-1), ranked 16th in the NCAA Division III by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, got off to a great start with Becca Blue's (Sr. • Kimberly) goal in the game's fourth minute (3:25). Kiley Hauck (Jr. • Hubertus) earned an assist on the score.

In the contest's 62nd minute (61:10), Carthage College's Shelby Hawley headed a loose ball into the net. The goal, which was assisted by Alyssa Baker and Michelle Sobey, tied the score at 1.

UW-Oshkosh had a goal erased in both the first and second halves due to an offsides.

Each team recorded two shots in the first overtime period. UW-Oshkosh attempted two shots in the second overtime, while Carthage (2-2-1) got off one. For the game, the Titans out-shot the Lady Reds, 19-11. UW-Oshkosh also held a 12-5 edge in corner kicks.

Blue and Anna Beckerleg (So. • Verona) led all players with four shots apiece. The Titans' Lindsey Collette (Sr. • Green Bay) and Cathage College's Rachel Jason each fired three shots.

Abby Alm saved seven shots while playing all 110 minutes in the net for Carthage College. The Titans had Katie Berkopec (Jr. • Apple Valley, Minn.) post a scoreless first half with three saves before Nina Muzi (Fr. • Waukesha) yielded one goal with four saves over the final 65 minutes.

It was the first meeting between the teams since 1998. Carthage College owns a 2-1-1 advantage in the all-time series.

UW-Oshkosh travels to UW-Superior for its WIAC opener on Saturday (Sept. 15).
