Titans Notch Win Over Tommies

Amanda Baalke (So. • Pewaukee) scored the match-winning goal as the UW-Oshkosh women's soccer team defeated the University of St. Thomas (Minn.), 2-1, on Saturday (Sept. 1) in Stevens Point.

The University of St. Thomas (1-1) took the early lead when Hannah Pawlik scored off a pass from Brittany Cochlin just 7:28 into play. The Tommies went to intermission leading 1-0 despite a 9-2 advantage in shots during the opening period.

UW-Oshkosh (2-0) tallied both of its goals within a span of 53 seconds. Jenna Lahmann (Fr. • Wauwatosa) made the score 1-1 when she sailed an unassisted shot into the net at the 53:44 mark of the contest. It was the first collegiate goal for Lahmann.

The Titans went in front moments later as Nicole Strieker (Sr. • Janesville) served Baalke for the decisive goal at the 54:37 mark of play.

The University of St. Thomas, which suffered its first loss to UW-Oshkosh in three meetings, posted advantages of 18-8 in shots and 7-5 in corner kicks. The Tommies were led by the four shots of Pawlik and the three of Cochlin. Lahmann and Strieker both had two shots for the Titans.

Goalkeeper Nina Muzi (Fr. • Waukesha) saved nine shots, including six in the first half, to earn her first collegiate victory. Callan Faulkne saved four shots for the University of St. Thomas.

UW-Oshkosh, which is off to its first 2-0 start since the 2006 season, plays Lake Forest College (Ill.) on Saturday (Sept. 8) in Kenosha.
