Titans To Host Blugolds In WIAC Tournament Opener

UW-Oshkosh hosts UW-Eau Claire for the second time this season when the two women's soccer teams meet in an opening-round match of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Tournament on Tuesday (Nov. 1) at J.J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium.

UW-Oshkosh, which tallied a 3-1 victory over UW-Eau Claire on Sept. 24, enters the 6 p.m. contest with an 11-6-1 record. The Titans have won six of their last eight matches (6-1-1 record), including Saturday's (Oct. 29) 7-0 triumph over UW-Superior.

UW-Eau Claire owns a 10-6-3 record, but is just 1-3-2 in its last six games. The Blugolds are coming off Saturday's 2-1 loss to UW-Whitewater.

UW-Oshkosh is seeded fourth in this year's six-team WIAC Tournament. The Titans compiled a 5-3 WIAC record during the regular season to tie for third place in the league standings with UW-Stout. The Blue Devils acquired the tournament's third seed due to their 1-0 victory over UW-Oshkosh on Oct. 22.

UW-Eau Claire earned the tournament's fifth seed after placing fifth in the league's regular-season standings with a 4-3-1 record.

Tuesday's match is the 28th between UW-Oshkosh and UW-Eau Claire. The Blugolds have won nine of the last 11 meetings to lead the all-time series by a 21-4-2 tally.

Another opening round contest on Tuesday has sixth-seeded UW-Stevens Point (10-7) visiting third-seeded UW-Stout (11-4-1).

The top seeds for the tournament are regular-season champion UW-Whitewater (12-4-1) and UW-La Crosse (10-5-2).

The WIAC Tournament will be re-seeded for Thursday's (Nov. 3) semifinal round. Those matches feature the lowest remaining seed playing at top-seeded UW-Whitewater and the highest remaining seed playing at second-seeded UW-La Crosse.

The championship match is scheduled for Saturday (Nov. 5) at the site of the highest remaining seed. The winner of the WIAC Tournament receives the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championship.
