Former Titan Chosen For WIAC All-Centennial Team

Former UW-Oshkosh defender Carrie Gilbert has been selected as a member of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Women's Soccer All-Time Team. The league named 24 outstanding players as part of its centennial anniversary celebration.

Gilbert, who played for the Titans from 2000-02, is the only person in program history to earn All-America status. She played in all 57 matches and led the squad to a 38-17-2 record. Gilbert's career numbers include 11 goals and one assist.

During 2000, UW-Oshkosh posted its best record in school history at 15-4. Gilbert, who transferred from UW-La Crosse, picked up All-WIAC first team honors. She totaled three goals (on just five shots) in 19 contests.

Gilbert (Appleton • Appleton West High School) was a NCAA Division III All-American in 2001. As the Titans went 13-3-1, Gilbert compiled two goals, with one being a match-winner. Her defensive performance helped UW-Oshkosh allow just 0.68 goals per contest. The Titans tallied a 7-1 WIAC record to finish second in the league.

In her final season (2002), Gilbert booked six goals and one assist in 21 games. She made the All-WIAC first team for the third straight year. Gilbert's defense helped the Titans record a shutout in their final eight victories of the season.

UW-Stevens Point owned half the players on the all-time team, including Becky Brem (1992-95), Jenny Bruce (2000-03), Mary Jean Cornelius (2007-10), Kim Cwik (1994-95, 1997-98), Margaret Domka (1998-2000), Kelly Fink (2001-03), Michelle Jacob (1998-2001), Marie Muhvic (1998-2000), Amanda Prawat (2005-08), Jenny Probst (1992-95), Tara Schmitt (2001-04) and Charisse Simcakowski (1992-95).

UW-Eau Claire was also well represented with six women – Kari Blasczyk (1997-2000), Liz Kooistra (2005-08), Allie Rivard (2005-08), Allison Smith (2005-08), Anna Talbot (2004-07) and Becky Westbrock (2003-06).

UW-La Crosse placed two players on the squad with Kristen Nokleby (1992-95) and Jennifer Tischaefer (1996-99), while UW-River Falls owns Sarah Carlson (2003-05) and Ashley Peterson (2003-06). The final selection was UW-Whitewater's Emily Gerber (1999-present).

The WIAC chose UW-Stevens Point's Sheila Miech as the all-time coach. She has guided the Pointers to 14 WIAC titles and 15 NCAA Division III postseason appearances since 1987.

The WIAC is recognizing the outstanding individuals from the league's 100-year history. All-time teams are being selected in those men's and women's sports that have been classified as "championship" sports at some point since 1913. Additional teams will be released on a weekly basis throughout much of the 2011-12 academic year.

All-time team members will receive certificates from the conference and it is hoped that most, if not all, of the recipients will be in attendance or represented at the WIAC Centennial Banquet in Madison on Aug. 4, 2012.
