Pioneers End Titans' Five-Match Winning Streak

Sarah Jensen scored the decisive goal in the 29th minute as Grinnell College (Iowa) held on for a 2-1 victory over the UW-Oshkosh women's soccer team on Sunday (Sept. 25) at J.J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium.

Jensen broke a 1-1 deadlock when she sailed a 10-yard shot into the net at the 28:08 mark of the contest. The unassisted goal came on her only shot of the match.

Grinnell College (4-3-1), which snapped the Titans' five-match winning streak, took a 1-0 lead just 13:29 into play. The Pioneers scored when Patty Murphy-Geiss converted a 20-yard shot off a pass from Abby Jaeger.

UW-Oshkosh (5-3) tied the score on a goal by Becca Blue (Jr. • Kimberly) in the 21st minute (20:58) of action. Blue's team-leading fifth goal of the season came off a pass from Carmen Fiordellisi (Sr. • Howard).

The Titans failed to score in the second half despite posting advantages of 8-2 in shots and 7-0 in corner kicks. UW-Oshkosh had four of their second-half shots saved by Grinnell College goalkeeper Jordan Young.

UW-Oshkosh finished the game with 13 shots and eight corner kicks. The Titans were led by the four shots of Blue and the two of Jessica Erny (Sr. • Wauwatosa).

Grinnell College, which avenged last year's loss to the Titans, concluded the contest with six shots. The Pioneers, who went without a corner kick opportunity, were paced by the two shots of Julie Sauerhaft.

UW-Oshkosh split its goalkeeping duties between Brittany Walder (Sr. • Waukesha) and Katie Berkopec (So. • Apple Valley, Minn.). Walder allowed two goals and saved one shot in the first half, while Berkopec saved one shot in the second. Young ended the match for Grinnell College with six saves.

UW-Oshkosh looks to remain unbeaten in WIAC play when it hosts UW-Whitewater on Wednesday (Sept. 28) at J.J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium.
