Blue's Goal Gives Titans Last-Second Win

It came down to the final seconds of regulation, but Becca Blue still had enough time to give the UW-Oshkosh women's soccer team a 2-1 victory over UW-River Falls on Saturday in River Falls.

After giving up a penalty-kick goal to the Falcons' Carlin Bunting in the 67th minute (66:50) of play, the Titans rallied back and won their WIAC opener as Blue sailed a 25-yard shot off a pass from Carmen Fiordellisi (Sr. • Howard) into the net with four seconds left. Blue's second goal of the season made UW-Oshkosh (3-2/1-0 WIAC) a winner in its third straight contest.

UW-Oshkosh opened the scoring on Kelsey Spaith's (Sr. • Madison) unassisted goal in the 35th minute (34:06) of action. Her goal immediately followed the Titans' fourth corner kick of the opening period.

UW-River Falls (1-5/1-1 WIAC) attempted 20 shots, with seven of them saved by UW-Oshkosh goalkeeper Brittany Walder (Sr. • Waukesha). The Falcons were led by the five shots of Bunting and the four of both Eryn Lansverk and Alex Swatloski.

UW-Oshkosh dispatched 17 shots, with six of them stopped by UW-River Falls goalkeeper Rachel Thompson. Blue led the Titans with six shots, while Jessica Erny (Sr. • Wauwatosa) and Jennifer Nesbitt (Sr. • Sturgeon Bay) followed with three each.

UW-Oshkosh finished the game with six corner kicks, UW-River Falls three. The Titans are the guest of Marian University on Tuesday (Sept. 20).
