Titans To Battle Blugolds In WIAC Tournament Opener

UW-Oshkosh will be the guest of UW-Eau Claire for the second time this season when the two teams meet in an opening round match of the WIAC Women's Soccer Tournament on Tuesday (Nov. 2) at Bollinger Fields in Eau Claire.

UW-Oshkosh, which suffered a 1-0 road loss to UW-Eau Claire on Sept. 18, enters the 2 p.m. contest with a 9-7-1 record. The Titans have won six of their last seven matches, including five by a shutout.

UW-Eau Claire owns a 12-6-1 record, but is just 1-4-1 in its last six games. The Blugolds snapped a four-match losing streak with Saturday's (Oct. 30) 1-0 double-overtime victory over UW-Stevens Point.

UW-Oshkosh is seeded sixth in this year's six-team WIAC Tournament. The Titans compiled a 3-4-1 WIAC record during the regular-season to tie for fifth place in the league standings with UW-Platteville. The Pioneers acquired the tournament's fifth seed due to their 6-0 victory over UW-Oshkosh on Oct. 2.

UW-Eau Claire earned the tournament's third seed after placing third in the league's regular-season standings with a 6-1-1 record.

Tuesday's match is the 26th between UW-Oshkosh and UW-Eau Claire. The Blugolds have won eight of the last nine meetings to lead the all-time series by a 20-3-2 tally.

Another opening round contest on Tuesday has UW-Platteville (11-8-1) visiting fourth-seeded UW-River Falls (10-8-1).

The top seeds for the tournament are two-time defending champion UW-Stevens Point (14-2-1) and UW-Whitewater (10-6). Both squads tied for the WIAC's regular-season title with 7-1 records, but the Pointers received the tournament's highest seed due to their 3-0 victory over the Warhawks on Oct. 9.

The WIAC Tournament will be re-seeded for Thursday's (Nov. 4) semifinal round. Those matches feature the lowest remaining seed playing at top-seeded UW-Stevens Point and the highest remaining seed playing at second-seeded UW-Whitewater.

The championship match is scheduled for Saturday (Nov. 6) at the site of the highest remaining seed. The winner of the WIAC Tournament receives the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championship.
