Titans Stun Falcons With String Of Goals

Three unanswered goals in the second half helped UW-Oshkosh rally from a 2-0 deficit and defeat the Concordia University Wisconsin women's soccer team, 3-2, on Tuesday (Oct. 19) in Mequon.

UW-Oshkosh (6-7-1) scored all of its goals in the final 26 minutes of action, including the match winner by Kelsey Spaith (Jr. • Madison) with 5:32 remaining. Spaith's first goal of the season came off a pass from Chelsea Kierszh (Fr. • Oshkosh).

The Titans, who have won all 10 of their meetings with the Falcons, began their comeback on an unassisted goal by Nicole Strieker (So. • Janesville) in the 65th minute (64:22) of action. The goal was Strieker's first of the season.

UW-Oshkosh then tied the score at 2-2 on Caitlin Casey's (Sr. • Waukesha) scoring strike in the 77th minute (76:45) of play. Casey's goal, which was assisted by Spaith and Abby Neumeyer (Fr. • Suamico), was her fifth of the season.

Concordia University Wisconsin (8-8-1) surprised UW-Oshkosh with a goal in the early minutes of each half. The Falcons scored just 2:49 into the first period on an unassisted goal by Becky Ott and only 47 seconds (45:47) into the second on an unassisted goal by Kelli Wittenberg. The goal by Ott was her team-leading 10th of the season.

UW-Oshkosh attempted 25 shots, including 14 in the first half. Casey led the Titans with seven shots, while Strieker and Jennifer Nesbitt (Jr. • Sturgeon Bay) totaled five each. UW-Oshkosh earned eight corner kicks.

Concordia University Wisconsin launched 10 shots, with six coming in the second half. The Falcons were led by the four shots of Emily Waldorf and the three of Ott. Concordia University Wisconsin had three corner kicks.

UW-Oshkosh goalkeeper Katie Berkopec (Fr. • Apple Valley, Minn.) saved one shot in the contest, while Concordia University Wisconsin goalkeeper Mary Ryan saved 14. Ryan recorded seven saves in each half.
