Titans Swat Yellowjackets

The UW-Oshkosh women's soccer team continued its domination of UW-Superior with a 4-0 victory over the Yellowjackets on Saturday (Oct. 23) in Superior.

UW-Oshkosh (7-7-1/2-4-1 WIAC) scored twice in each half and posted advantages of 24-1 in shots and 7-0 in corner kicks to remain unbeaten in 18 matches with the UW-Superior (2-15/0-6 WIAC).

UW-Oshkosh broke open a scoreless contest with two goals in the closing minutes of the first half.

The Titans took a 1-0 lead when Becca Blue (So. • Kimberly) tallied her team-leading seventh goal of the season off a pass from Nikki Reed (Jr. • Muskego) in the 41st minute (40:53) of play. Abby Neumeyer (Fr. • Suamico) then gave UW-Oshkosh a 2-0 advantage when she scored an unassisted goal just as the opening period ended (45:00). Neumeyer's goal was her second of the season.

UW-Oshkosh doubled its lead in the second half as Katie Behrens (So. • Milton) and Stephanie Schwertfeger (Fr. • Marinette) counted their first goals of the season. Behrens scored off a pass from Lauren Heinen (So. • Greendale) in the 83rd minute (82:48) of action and Schwertfeger off a serve from Neumeyer in the 86th (85:47).

UW-Oshkosh's shot count featured three each by Schwertfeger, Jessica Erny (Jr. • Wauwatosa), Carmen Fiordellisi (Jr. • Howard) and Jennifer Nesbitt (Jr. • Sturgeon Bay). UW-Superior, which has lost its last 111 WIAC matches, received its lone shot from Andrea McKay.

UW-Oshkosh shared its goalkeeping duties as Amanda Hughes (Fr. • Oshkosh) and Mackenzie Oleson (Fr. • Oshkosh) both played 45 minutes. Oleson had the Titans' lone save.

UW-Superior goalkeeper Emily Finnerud saved 12 shots while allowing all four goals.
