Tommies Prevail Over Titans

Katy Scherer scored one goal and assisted on two others as the University of St. Thomas (Minn.) women's soccer team defeated UW-Oshkosh, 4-0, on Sunday (Oct. 17) at J.J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium.

Scherer gave the University of St. Thomas (9-6) a 1-0 lead when she scored off a pass from Anna Strehlow in the 31st minute (30:40) of play. The Tommies then doubled their advantage in the 33rd minute (32:48) as Scherer and Regina Horak assisted on a goal by Jenna Savino.

The University of St. Thomas added two more goals in the second half to secure the end of its two-match losing streak. The Tommies went ahead 3-0 on Maren Flom-Staab's assisted goal by Stephanie McCartan in the 61st minute (60:53) and 4-0 on Horak's assisted goal by Scherer in the 85th (84:48).

UW-Oshkosh (5-7-1) was held to just four shots, two each by Jessica Erny (Jr. • Wauwatosa) and Jennifer Nesbitt (Jr. • Sturgeon Bay). The Titans, who had only two corner kick opportunities, were unable to get off a shot until the 66th minute of play.

The University of St. Thomas managed only nine shot shots and three corner kicks. The Tommies were led by the three shots of Horak.

UW-Oshkosh split its goalkeeping duties as Brittany Walder (Jr. • Waukesha) played the first half (45 minutes) and Amanda Hughes (Fr. • Oshkosh) the second (45 minutes). Hughes had all three of the Titans' saved shots.

The University of St. Thomas also shared its goalkeeping chores as Allie Byron played the first half and Amanda Domeler the second. Domeler had all of the Tommies' saved shots.
UW-Oshkosh takes to the road to battle Concordia University Wisconsin on Tuesday (Oct. 19).
