Falcons End Titans' Five-Match Winning Streak

UW-River Falls held the UW-Oshkosh women's soccer team to a season-low six shots during a 3-0 win over the Titans on Saturday (Oct. 17) in River Falls.

UW-River Falls (8-7-1/4-3 WIAC), which snapped UW-Oshkosh's five-match winning streak, took an early lead on Janae Baron's goal just 8:29 into play. Baron took a pass from Megan Church up the center of the field and slipped a shot past UW-Oshkosh goalkeeper Brittany Walder (So. • Waukesha) for the goal.

The Falcons added to their lead on a goal by Church at the 27:55 mark of the match. Baron started the scoring play by beating two UW-Oshkosh defenders to the right corner of the field and sending the ball into the box. Carlin Bunting headed the pass to the left side of the goal, where Church settled the ball and kicked it into the net.

UW-River Falls held its 2-0 lead until Erin Lansverk scored off a pass from Jessi Larson at the 74:07 mark of the contest. Lansverk and Walder both raced out for a ball sent forward by Larson, but Lansverk won the sprint and flipped the ball into the goal.

UW-Oshkosh (8-5-2/4-2-1 WIAC) had Becca Blue (Fr. • Kimberly), Caitlin Casey (Jr. • Waukesha), Lindsey Collette (Fr. • Green Bay), Jessica Erny (So. • Wauwatosa), Anna Guilfoil (So. • Madison) and Nikki Reed (So. • Muskego) attempt one shot each. The Titans earned five corner kicks.

UW-River Falls fired 16 shots and four corner kicks. Baron led the Falcons with four shots, while Church, Lansverk and Kayla Scott counted two each.
