Titans Rally To Gain Overtime Tie With Pioneers

Nicole Strieker (Fr. • Janesville) scored as time expired in regulation to help the UW-Oshkosh women's soccer team earn a 1-1 double overtime tie with UW-Platteville on Friday (Sept. 18) at J.J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium.

Nikki Reed (So. • Muskego) got UW-Oshkosh's match-tying goal started when she served the ball to the right side of the box with six seconds left. Jessica Erny (So. • Wauwatosa) then headed the ball over to Strieker who kicked a 15-yard shot from the middle of the box into the net. The goal was Strieker's second of the season.

UW-Oshkosh (2-3-1/1-1-1 WIAC) attempted 24 shots before UW-Platteville (3-3-2/1-0-1) launched its first. However, the Pioneers' initial shot put them in the lead as Kim Schneckloth booted a passed ball from Anna Allen into the goal at the 76:25 mark of play.

The two 10-minute overtime periods went scoreless as goalkeepers Brittany Walder (So. • Waukesha) of UW-Oshkosh saved four shots and Kaitlyn Wideman of UW-Platteville three. Walder finished the contest with five saves and Wiedeman 14. The Pioneers also recorded two other saves courtesy of their defenders.

UW-Oshkosh settled for the tie despite compiling advantages of 32-8 in shots and 15-1 in corner kicks. A total of 12 players attempted shots for the Titans, including Kiley Hauck (Fr. • Hubertus) who fired five shots and Strieker and Carly Roiniotis (Fr. • Pleasant Prairie) who dispatched four each. UW-Platteville was led by the three shots of Allie Metcalfe and the two of Larissa Fraley.

UW-Oshkosh, which extended to its unbeaten streak over UW-Platteville to 17 matches (16-0-1 record), hosts St. Norbert College on Sunday (Sept. 20).
