Fords Bounce Back From Early Deficit To Defeat Titans

Haverford College (Pa.) answered an early deficit with three straight goals to defeat UW-Oshkosh, 3-2, in a women's soccer match held Sunday (Sept. 6) in Haverford, Pa.

UW-Oshkosh (1-2) jumped to a quick 1-0 lead on Carmen Fiordellisi's (So. • Howard) goal just 3:25 into play. Fiordellisi's second goal of the season was assisted by Nicole Strieker (Fr. • Janesville).

Haverford College, a first-time opponent of UW-Oshkosh, rallied back with three goals to end the first half. The Fords received goals at 16:02 of the match from Katie Van Aken, 41:11 from Erin Dowling and 44:10 from Katie Bigay. Van Aken's score was assisted by Erin Verrier and Dowling's by Allie Chen.

Haverford College (2-0-1) held its two-goal advantage until UW-Oshkosh's Jessica Erny (So. • Wauwatosa) fired a shot into the net at the 70:55 mark of the match. Erny's first goal of the season was unassisted. Advantages of 16-7 in shots and 10-5 in corner kicks went in favor of Haverford College. The Titans had six players take shots, including two shots on goal by Erny and one by both Fiordellisi and Nikki Mohr (Fr. • Crystal Lake, Ill.). Eight different players fired shots for the Fords, including shots on goal by Dowling and two by Van Aken.

Both goalkeepers went the distance, with Brittany Walder (So. • Waukesha) saving five shots for UW-Oshkosh and Kayleigh Herrick-Reynolds two for Haverford College.

UW-Oshkosh opens its eight-match WIAC schedule on Saturday (Sept. 12) at UW-La Crosse.
