23rd-Ranked Tommies Stop Titans

Erin Sprangers' second-half goal provided the margin of victory as the nationally-ranked University of St. Thomas (Minn.) women's soccer team edged UW-Oshkosh, 1-0, on Sunday (Oct. 18) in St. Paul, Minn.

Sprangers scored her match-winning goal off an assist from Kirsten Moran at the 72:34 mark of the contest. The goal made the Tommies (11-2-1) a winner in their first meeting with the Titans (8-6-2).

The University of St. Thomas, which entered the match ranked 23rd in the NCAA Division III by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, totaled 17 shots and five corner kicks in improving its record to 9-0-1 in its last 10 games. The Tommies were led by the four shots of both Sprangers and Regina Horak and the two shots of both Moran and Lexie Fisher.

UW-Oshkosh, which was shutout for the second straight match, was held to just seven shots. Caitlin Casey (Jr. • Waukesha), Jessica Erny (So. • Wauwatosa) and Nicole Strieker (Fr. • Janesville) attempted two shots each for the Titans. UW-Oshkosh went without a corner kick opportunity.

UW-Oshkosh goalkeeper Brittany Walder (So. • Waukesha) was busy as she saved 11 of the Tommies' 17 shots. University of St. Thomas goalkeeper Amanda Domeier stopped two shots to help her team record its eighth shutout of the season.

UW-Oshkosh returns home to host UW-Eau Claire in its WIAC finale on Saturday (Oct. 24).
