Titans To Host Warhawks In First Round Of WIAC Tournament

UW-Whitewater will be UW-Oshkosh's first obstacle when the Titans host the Warhawks in an opening round match of the WIAC Women's Soccer Tournament at 7 p.m. on Tuesday (Nov. 3) at J.J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium.

The teams shared fourth place in the WIAC's regular season standings with 4-3-1 records, but UW-Oshkosh (8-7-2) earned the tournament's fourth seed due to its 3-1 victory over UW-Whitewater (10-7-1) on Oct. 14 at J.J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium. The Warhawks are seeded fifth in this year's six-team event.

Tuesday's contest is the 20th between UW-Oshkosh and UW-Whitewater, but only the third in WIAC Tournament play. UW-Oshkosh has won eight of the last 10 meetings to lead the all-time series by a 12-5-2 tally. The teams battled each other in WIAC Tournaments held in 1993 and 2004.

Another first round match on Tuesday has sixth-seeded UW-Stout (5-13) visiting third-seeded UW-River Falls (9-9-1).

The top seeds for this year's tournament are UW-Stevens Point (13-3-1) and UW-Eau Claire (9-7-2). UW-Stevens Point went undefeated in eight WIAC contests to win the league's regular season title, while UW-Eau Claire posted a 6-2-1 record to finish second.

The WIAC Tournament will be re-seeded for Thursday's (Nov. 5) semifinal round. Those matches feature the lowest remaining seed playing at top-seeded UW-Stevens Point and the highest remaining seed playing at second-seeded UW-Eau Claire.

The championship match is scheduled for Saturday (Nov. 7) at the site of the highest remaining seed. The winner of the WIAC Tournament receives the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championship.
