Titans Hand Out Awards For 2009 Campaign

The 2009 UW-Oshkosh women's soccer season has come to a close and the team recently held its end of the year banquet honoring the team and its success.

"The 2009 season was a huge step in where we want to go within the conference. This year's team was fun and energetic and truly a blast to work with," commented head coach Erin Coppernoll. "The women on this team made this year a success."

The following five awards were voted on by the players and coaching staff - Leadership Award, Newcomer of the Year, MVP-Offense, MVP-Defense and Most Improved.

Caitlin Casey (Jr. • Waukesha West) was the recipient of the Leadership award, Nicole Strieker (Fr. • Janesville Parker) won the Newcomer of the year, Carmen Fiordellisi (So. • Bay Port) won the MVP-Offense, Nikki Reed (So. • Muskego) won the MVP-Defense and Kelsey Spaith (So. • Madison Memorial) won the Most Improved.

The Toughest Titan award went to Steffanie Nagan (Jr. • Kaukauna). The Toughest Titan award is based on effort during the non-traditional season and goes to the player who earns the most points for workouts.

The True Titan award went to Becca Blue (Fr. • Kimberly). The True Titan award goes to the player that most represents the characteristics of a true team player.

All of the players were recognized for their efforts this season in helping the team finish fourth this season in the WIAC.

"This team showed remarkable improvements in all aspects of the game from last season," commented Coppernoll. "We definitely have a bright future knowing that all the players from this year's team can return for next season. I can't wait!"
