Titans, Big Blue Battle To Double-Overtime Tie

The UW-Oshkosh women's soccer team gave up a pair of one-goal leads and had to settle for 2-2, double-overtime tie with Millikin University (Ill.) on Sunday (Sept. 27) in Decatur, Ill.

UW-Oshkosh (3-4-2) opened the scoring on Jessica Erny's (So. • Wauwatosa) unassisted goal at the 18:40 mark of the contest. It was the second goal of the season for Erny.

Millikin University (6-3-1) pulled even with the Titans on Nikki Smith's goal at the 30:48 mark of the match. Katie Mulderink was credited with starting the scoring play for the Big Blue.

UW-Oshkosh regained the lead when Carmen Fiordellisi (So. • Howard) sailed an assisted ball from Erny and Caitlin Casey (Jr. • Waukesha) into the net at the 49:05 mark of the game. The goal was Fiordellisi's team-leading fifth of the year.

Millikin University bounced back to tie the score at 2-2 on a goal by Allison Horne at the 60:17 mark of the match. Horne's goal was assisted by Brittany Rohling.

Neither team found the goal during the final 29 minutes of regulation and the two 10-minute overtime periods.

Millikin University attempted 23 shots, with nine coming in the second half, six in the first half, five in the first overtime period and three in the second overtime period. The Big Blue were led by the six shots of Horne, five of Rohling and the four of Brittany Belrichard.

UW-Oshkosh totaled 10 shots, with five launched in the first half and five in the second. Kiley Hauck (Fr. • Hubertus) had three shots and Casey and Fiordellisi two each for the Titans.

Millikin University, a first-time opponent of UW-Oshkosh, posted a 5-4 advantage in corner kicks.

The contest featured 10 saves by the goalkeepers as Brittany Walder (So. • Waukesha) blocked six shots for UW-Oshkosh and Natalie Robertaccio four for Millikin University.

UW-Oshkosh resumes WIAC play with Friday's (Oct. 3) road match at UW-Stout.
