Bio

Dallas Herbst is entering his sixth year as an assistant coach for the UW-Oshkosh wrestling program.

Under Herbst's tutelage UW-Oshkosh has compiled an 18-47 dual meet record. Herbst helped coach three-time NCAA Division III All-American Mark Choinski to back-to-back individual WIAC titles and guide Jordan Lemcke to All-America status.

Prior to coaching at UW-Oshkosh, Herbst spent one year coaching at Menomonee Falls as well as two years at Appleton North high schools. He is currently a special education teacher in the Oshkosh Area School District.

Herbst attended Winneconne High School, where he qualified for the WIAA State Tournament as a freshman, placed third as a sophomore and crowned champion during his junior and senior years. He graduated with a 155-13 record, including 92 pins. Herbst placed third at Senior Nationals this year at 189 pounds and received the award for most falls. He was a three-time state Greco-Roman champion and three-time state freestyle champion during high school on the way to being named a High School All-American by USA Wrestling Magazine.

Herbst competed at University of Wisconsin, where he was a four-time national qualifier. He was an NCAA Division I All-American in 2008, when he placed sixth in the 197-pound weight class and was named the team’s Most Valuable Wrestler.

During his senior collegiate season, Herbst also tied the record for most pins in a year with 18. Herbst won the prestigious Midlands Tournament, knocking off future national and Olympic champion Jake Varner. Herbst left the Badgers with a 108-32 career record (58 pins) and four Big Ten Wrestler of the Week accolades.

Following his final collegiate season, Herbst competed at the senior level, placing fourth at the U.S. Championship. The performance qualified him for the 2009 World Team Trials.

Herbst graduated from University of Wisconsin with degrees in both history and political science. He received his teaching certificate from UW-Oshkosh and is currently seeking a master's degree in special education.

Herbst and his wife, Shannon, are the parents of daughters, Korrie and Brynley.
